PRICE RETURNS TO WINNING WAYS

Gerwyn Price ended his year-long drought without a stage title with a victory in the Nordic Darts Masters in Denmark on Saturday.

‘The Iceman’ defeated Rob Cross 8-5 in the final, held at the Forum Copenhagen, to win his first title in front of a crowd since lifting the World Cup of Darts alongside Jonny Clayton last June.

Price had been edged out by Cross in the US Darts Masters final in New York the previous weekend, but avenged that defeat in the Danish capital.

The Welshman was a runner-up to Peter Wright in last year’s Nordic Darts Masters, and went one better this time round with wins over Madars Razma (6-2), Dimitri Van den Bergh (6-1), Michael Smith (7-3) and Cross to take home the £20,000 top prize.

“I’m chuffed to bits,” Price said. “I have been struggling to get over the winning line, but you need a bit of luck sometimes and I haven’t had much luck over the last couple of months.

“I had a little bit of luck in the semi-finals against Michael Smith who didn’t capitalise on a poor game from me, but I’m just glad to win a final and get another trophy in the bank.

“I will push on from here. My game is in a good place, and I’m ready for the big tournaments coming up.”

Cross fell just short in his bid for back-to-back World Series titles, a feat he achieved last year when he won tournaments in New Zealand and Australia on consecutive weekends.

‘Voltage’ threw three 100+ averages on his way to the final in Copenhagen, making history in Friday’s first round with a 108.19 average in his win against Jeffrey de Graaf – a new tournament record.

The World Series of Darts continues with the Poland Darts Masters in Gliwice this weekend (June 14-15).

NINE-DART KIST DOUBLES UP ON THE CHALLENGE TOUR

Christian Kist threw a nine-dart finish on his way to winning two titles on the Challenge Tour in Leicester at the weekend.

The former Lakeside champion won 16 matches in a row at the Mattioli Arena on Friday as he picked up the titles in Events 11 and 12.

He landed the perfect leg during his 5-2 victory against Darren Armstrong in the last 16 of the day’s first event, wrapping up the title with a 5-4 win over Michael Unterbuchner in the final.

Kist completed the double with a 5-3 triumph against John Henderson in the Event 12 decider, with his brace of tournament wins taking him into the PDC tour card and World Championship spots on the Challenge Tour Order of Merit.

On Saturday, Connor Scutt and Justin Hood claimed their first Challenge Tour titles, with Scutt whitewashing Dragutin Horvat 5-0 in the Event 13 final, and Hood averaging 107 to beat Horvat 5-1 in the decider of Event 14.

The weekend concluded with Event 15 on Sunday and Wesley Plaisier lifted his first title of the season, beating Damian Mol 5-4 in an all-Dutch finale.

Danny Jansen (£6,625) still holds top spot on the Order of Merit, with Kist (£6,100), Andy Boulton (£5,975), Scutt (£5,675) and Plaisier (£5,475) all in close pursuit with only nine events to go.

SCUTT LANDS FOUR 180S IN A ROW

Connor Scutt threw an impressive four 180s in a row on his way to winning the British Pentathlon last Thursday.

‘The Sniper’ caught the eye with a rear feat of maximum hitting, landing the perfect score with three darts in four consecutive visits to the board during a leg of 1001.

The British Pentathlon is a unique event on the darts calendar as players compete in a variety of formats, including games of 1001, 2001, round the board, halve it and shanghai, and earn points from each game towards an overall leaderboard.

First held in 1975, the list of former winners features Eric Bristow, Phil Taylor, John Lowe and Martin Adams.

In the 2024 edition, Scutt finished top of the pile with a score of 473 points, ahead of Tavis Dudeney (392 points) and Steve Hine (355) who completed the top three.

Beau Greaves came out on top in the ladies’ Pentathlon with 385 points, finishing above Deta Hedman (314) and Vicky Pruim (285).
