A new name was added to the US Darts Masters roll of honour as the world’s best players faced off in New York at the weekend. Here’s our recap on all things darts over the last seven days…

CROSS DENIES PRICE TO CLINCH US DARTS MASTERS

Rob Cross battled back from 6-4 and 7-6 down to beat Gerwyn Price in the final of the US Darts Masters in New York on Saturday.

The 2018 PDC World Champion celebrated victory on a dramatic final night of action at Madison Square Garden, defeating a trio of world champions to take home the £20,000 top prize.

‘Voltage’ won six of the last eight legs to overcome defending champion Michael van Gerwen 6-4 in the quarter-finals, before surviving a brave fightback from world number one Luke Humphries in the next round.

Cross had raced into a 5-0 lead in his semi-final clash with the reigning PDC World Champion, only for Humphries to win five legs on the spin to level at 5-5.

It was Cross who finished strong though, winning the last two legs in 11 and 12 darts to set up a showdown with Price in the decider.

‘The Iceman’ was in the ascendancy early on in the final, firing in a 164 finish as he took a 5-2 lead, before Cross battled back to come through in a last-leg decider.

“This means a lot to me,” Cross said. “I felt a little bit spent at the end and I thought Gezzy had me beaten, but I’m really glad to get over the line.

“Gezzy is probably my best mate on tour. He’s one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met, but for me to win any title with the likes of Luke Littler around, you’ve got to embrace it.

“I’m working really hard and I feel better than ever. I think I was a little bit fortunate tonight, but I’ve loved this weekend, it’s been absolutely amazing.”

The World Series of Darts continues with the Nordic Darts Masters this weekend (June 7-8), with Peter Wright the defending champion in Copenhagen.

O’SULLIVAN WINS WOMEN’S WEEK

Rhian O’Sullivan was an impressive winner of the first ever Women’s Week at the MODUS Super Series on Saturday.

The Welsh ace edged past Fallon Sherrock 3-2 in the final to clinch the title and with it a spot in Series 8 of the weekly competition.

The first Women’s Week started with Beau Greaves in a dominant mood, winning 14 out of 15 matches to finish top of Group A and secure the first spot in Saturday’s finale.

Deta Hedman and O’Sullivan then finished first and second in Group C to join Greaves, with the six-player line up for the final session complete with Sherrock, Vicky Pruim and Kirsi Viinikainen, who finished in the top three places of Group B.

After losing 3-0 to Greaves in her opening group game on Saturday, O’Sullivan responded with a 3-2 win against Pruim to advance to the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, Sherrock produced a stunning 107 average to whitewash Greaves 3-0 and O’Sullivan got past Viinikainen 3-1.

The final saw O’Sullivan fire in a 158 finish to level at 1-1 and then a 13 darter on throw in the decider to secure the title.

SELF CROWNED JDC ADVANCED TOUR CHAMPION

Archie Self is the new JDC Advanced Tour champion after topping the rankings at the end of the 2024 season.

The 14-year-old, sponsored by Mission Darts, won four titles and finished runner-up three times, across the 16-event season which concluded at the weekend.

Self is now the new junior world number one and will captain England A at the JDC World Cup in Gibraltar later this year.

The last four events of the season took place in Coventry over Saturday and Sunday, with Jack Marshall continuing his excellent form to win Event 13, beating Kieran Thompson 6-4 in the final.

The 13-year-old had won Events 11 and 12 on the previous weekend of action, and made it a hat-trick of titles, before his run came to an end in Event 14, which was won by Jack Nankervis, who whitewashed Rune Van Damme 6-0 in the final.

Sunday’s final day saw the two finals contested between Ryan Branley and Self, with Branley coming out on top on both occasions.
